Counterstrain Therapy is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy that relieves pain by identifying and releasing areas of protective muscle guarding and abnormal tension throughout the body. Your body is carefully positioned into a comfortable, pain-free position, allowing the nervous system to reset dysfunctional reflexes that contribute to pain and restricted movement.
Counterstrain works by releasing tension in muscles, fascia (connective tissue), tendons, ligaments, joint capsules, peripheral nerves, blood vessels, and lymphatic tissues. These tissues can become irritated or restricted due to injury, overuse, poor posture, repetitive movements, or chronic stress. By restoring normal tissue tone and reducing excessive protective reflexes, Counterstrain helps improve movement, circulation, and overall function.
